Jessica VanTroost Presidents Message

    Jessica VanTroost

I am so proud to be a member of the Association of Legal Administrators.  This organization embodies what it means to be a true professional in the legal community and has taught me so much over the years.  The greatest example of this for me, personally, is when I moved from New York to Florida to start a new job four years ago.  I was active in my Rochester, NY chapter, but I had no idea how much I would need to lean on my new chapter during this transition.  When I made the move, I was ready for a new adventure in my life, but what I was not ready for was leaving behind the professional networks and connections that I had spent my entire career building.  I took for granted the knowledge and experience I had gained in New York and found myself all alone in a new city.   This was a humbling experience.  Thankfully, I was able to  reach out to this amazing network of people in my new chapter.  What a blessing this turned out to be. I had a built-in group of  professionals to  help guide me.  A special and added benefit, was to have these ALA members turn into true friends.

It is with great honor that I serve as President for the 2017-2018 term for the Jacksonville Chapter of the Association of Legal Administrators. The chapter is coming off a strong year in which we celebrated our 40thanniversary.  I want to thank Erin Juzapavicus and the rest of the 2016-2017 board members for a fantastic job last year.  It takes a special group of people to give so selflessly of their time to keep this organization moving forward.

This chapter has established a priority of educating its members, building relationships with its business partners and giving back to its community.  I look forward to continuing this tradition as we increase our outreach to the chapter’s new members, expand our member base, nurture our relationship with business partners, and continue our community involvement. But, I cannot do this alone and the board cannot do it alone.  We need the involvement of all our members.  It is you, our members, who make this chapter a success.  I challenge each of you to make a commitment this year to bring a prospective new member to a monthly luncheon or ask a new member to lunch, invite one of your firm’s vendors to become a chapter business partner, or serve on a committee.  I promise, the rewards will come back to you in unforeseen ways.

I will be forever indebted to the people that helped me take my first steps as an administrator as I started my career in Rochester and later to those who helped me take my first steps in Florida.  I am eager to give back to an organization that has given me so much over the years.  I look forward to getting to know each of you better and working together throughout the year with you.
